The first thing I ordered on my first visit to France...the Croque Monsieur aka a hot ham and cheese. I remembered it from high school French class (thank you Madam Mitchell 🇫🇷) and knew it was a safe & solid choice 😂

I love recreating some of the favorite dishes we've had in our travels, and this bread from Ironspring Orchard, found on Huntsville Food & Farm Hub , served as inspiration for this incredible sandwich. And the Croque Madame has a beautifully sunny side up egg from @apolloacres 🍳

The assembly process:
🍞 Milk Bread from @ironspringorchard
🥣 Bechamel sauce
🍖 Black Forest or Honey Ham
🧀 Gruyere mix & shaved Parmesan
🍞 2nd slice of Milk Bread

Toast at 400° for 5-6 minutes, then broil until cheese is browning & bubbly

Super interesting deep dive into the history of grocery stores, their evolution and reinvention, the ebbs and flows of the American Diet, processed foods and the declining health of America...and I'm only halfway through 📚🤓
