G is for Giardiniera...a sandwich relish with bold, spicy 🔥 flavors. A colorful mix of cauliflower, green 🫒 olives, 🫑 bell peppers, 🧅 onions, 🥕 carrots, and celery, Serrano and jalapeno peppers, and herbs that packs a punch of flavor.

Traditionally used as a sandwich relish, in Chicago on a hot beef sandwich, it can also be added to hot dogs, salads, and the olive salad for muffalettas.

Let's talk about bar fights 🥊😜🥊 the "chaos in a jar" as we call them. I've rotated the lineup of these little conversation starters since the beginning. This year, we are starting out with Alabama and ALL surrounding states 😂 We will see which sells the best, although spoiler alert 🤫 it's been Georgia Bar Fight the past two years.

Here's a breakdown of what goes into each bar fight - and, no, it's not "bad decisions and regret" as one witty customer asked 😆

🫐 Kentucky Bar Fight - the original, and the only one that actually came with a recipe 📜- blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, apple cider vinegar, jalapenos, and bourbon

🍓 Alabama Bar Fight - all of the above minus the bourbon

🍑 Georgia Bar Fight - peaches + bourbon

🍊 Florida Bar Fight - orange marmalade + bourbon

🍎Tennessee Bar Fight - apples & Jack Daniels

And the newest bad decision:

🫐 Mississippi Bar Fight - blueberries + bourbon

They are fun, great gifts, and way more versatile than they first appear - they can be used for vinaigrette bases, marinade/glazes, charcuterie boards, etc.

Starting a business from the ground up is hard, and not in the dismissive "I know it will be hard work BUT" kind of way - it's HARD juggling all of the things a small business owner has to do.

Having the BEST customers makes it exponentially easier 🫶 One of these customers wandered into my life a couple of years ago searching for old-fashioned pear preserves. Mr. Peebles contacted me through a friend of my mom's when she passed along seeing my jam making posts.

Mr. Peebles didn't buy a jar or two of pear preserves, he ordered them by the BATCHES 🙏 He loved the pear preserves and would tell me so when picking up his batches and reminiscing about the pear preserves from his childhood and years earlier.

My adoration of Mr. Peebles didn't come from him buying a lot from The Mason Jar - Canning & Home , it came from the multiple people that came up to me at markets and said "Woody Peebles gave me some of your pear preserves and I just HAD to come get some more" 🥹 So he didn't buy batches just for himself, he bought them to give away - to give the gift of nostalgia to his friends and family.

Pear preserves had always been one of my favorites but to have someone else cherish them like I did meant the world. To have someone boast about and promote my business just like I would, meant the world ❤️

I had feared his health was deteriorating from the last pickup he did, where he wasn't driving his little red truck but had someone else drive him. Then at our last market in December, my mom forwarded me a message from her friend that had first recommended my jams to Mr. Peebles, and he passed away a few days prior 💔

So I was having a soft cry at a public market 🥹, not from losing a customer but from grieving the passing of a champion for me and my business, and those old-fashioned pear preserves.

This year, I'm renaming the plain old Pear Preserves to "Mr. Peebles Pear Preserves" to remember the phenomenal proponent of my small business and the indelible mark his appreciation and gratitude left ❤️

Here's a stranger than fiction story:

August 2021 - I create The Mason Jar - Canning & Home website and online store

December 2021 - I tag along on a work trip Matt had in Colorado Springs, I go sightseeing while he goes to conferences and I pass this restaurant called The Mason Jar 😲 and snap a picture. Later, I tell Matt about it and joke that "everyone tries to copy me" 😂 and we drive by it again so I can show him.

May/June 2022 - I'm setting up at Greene St. Market that week and a lady comes up and starts shopping. We have small talk but I'm distracted setting up then she says "The Mason Jar, how funny, I had a restaurant in Colorado Springs called "The Mason Jar"...I stopped dead in my tracks, WHAT?!?! I said I drove past your restaurant last December?!?!?!

Such a small world 🌍 that I had been by her Mason Jar in Colorado Springs and then she's standing in my Mason Jar in Huntsville, AL 🫙

I have had 2-3 customers since this interaction bring up The Mason Jar in Colorado Springs although the restaurant has changed names now

After our first appearance on Tennessee Valley Living, I had dozens of website hits and an amazingly large order before I even got home! At several markets after, we had people come up and say they saw me on TV, it really makes you feel so incredibly lucky to think these people would have never known your business without that TV spot 🙏

Yesterday, seconds after the segment ended, I grabbed my phone and saw 23 website hits and already had an order again‼️As we drove out of the WAFF parking lot, website hits were over 30, and I had another order ‼️ Not to brag, I just want to put this elated feeling into almost tangible terms and show just how much it impacts small, local business. From our second TVL spot, 50+ website views, 4 orders, and several messages to see where we will be next, potential special orders, etc.

So thankful 🙏 so blessed 🙌 so happy 😊
